Overview:
MacTaggart Scott are looking to recruit a Production Test Technician, within the Test department. Production Test Technicians are based on the shop floor and report directly to the Test Supervisor. Their primary duty is to ensure that MacTaggart Scott products perform their proposed functions in a satisfactory manner.
Role:
The Production Test Technician will work along with the Test Supervisor for all aspects of performance of their production cell. A standard suite of performance measures is used to monitor and assess the performance of each production cell and it is the responsibility of the Production Test Technician, Supervisor and Works Manager, working together, to ensure standards are maintained and improved.
Duties will include:
- Ensure that roles and responsibilities are clearly understood prior to commencing testing procedures.
- Work in both mechanical/hydraulic and electrical engineering on complex interdisciplinary projects.
- Co-ordinate and participate in the test activities to allow successful testing of component.
- Be responsible for ensuring that all Test procedures are documented, maintained, communicated, understood, and adhered to.
- Act as liaison between engineering and the shop floor to ensure Test requirements are met and to provide technical direction.
- Using information supplied from the design team, the Test Technician will extract the functional needs to develop test equipment, and it’s installation and operation.
- Communicate with team members on a regular basis reporting to the supervisor with any requirements.
- Ensure the accurate completion of all paperwork. This will include all route cards are complete and signed off and Test Instruction Sheets (T.I.S’s) are completed accurately and to schedule.
- The Production Test Technician will work closely with Production Management, Chief Test Engineer & Planning teams to implement methods to improve efficiency and quality whilst reducing costs and production lead times. In addition to this, they will be requested to assist with developing/conducting trials for new processes, and ensuring the test engineers conform to procedures.
- The Production Test Technician will be expected to play a leading role in all noise and vibration testing using relevant software packages.
- They will assist in troubleshooting, fault finding and problem resolution resulting in the job being completed in a timely manner.
- Assist Quality Assurance Department in carrying out customer F.A.T’s.
Essential skills, experience and knowledge requirements:
The successful candidate must;
- Traditional electrical engineering apprenticeship.
- HNC in electrical engineering or city & guilds equivalent.
- Good all round knowledge and experience of electrical control and hydraulic systems /equipment, particularly in control with relation to proportional valves, amplifiers, and solenoids.
- Be able to communicate well verbally and nonverbally within all levels of the organization.
- Computer skills – MS Office programs including Excel and Word.
- Must have good organizational, resource management and time management skills.
- Flexible and ability to use initiative.
- Be creative and show enthusiasm for learning new techniques.
- Efficient in reading/understanding engineering drawings and electrical/hydraulic circuits.
- Must be highly motivated with attention to detail and constant ability to deliver a high standard of workmanship.
- Experience working with conventional starters DOL, star delta, soft starts and drives.
- Capable of following processes and plans on test instruction sheets (T.I.S’s)
- Critical thinker who has analytical and problem solving skills.
